Job summary

CMI Group in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a CNC Lathe Operator for the Night Shift to setup and run aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. You will perform daily maintenance, manage tool offsets, and ensure high-precision part production while following safety and paperwork requirements.

Responsibilities include operating two Mazak machines, maintaining clean work habits, and communicating process improvements to leadership.

Qualifications

• High school or GED required.
• 5+ years experience preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with live tooling and Mazak machines.
• Able to stand for the majority of shift and work night hours.

Job description

CNC Lathe Operator – Night Shift

Location: 3617 E La Salle St, Phoenix, AZ 85040 (40th St and Southern).

Shift: Night Shift.

20% Pay differential.

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or Valid Permanent Resident status is required.

Responsibilities

• Setup & operate to produce high precision aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materials
• Daily machine maintenance (checking fluid levels, cleaning out chips, etc.)
• Maintaining a clean and organized work space
• Tool management, entering offsets to compensate for tool wear, etc.
• Replacement of worn and damaged tools (inserts, boring bars, etc.)
• Adhering to all company and industry safety standards and protocols
• Understanding industry buy‑off requirements, company specific handling & FOD requirements, product identification requirements, filling out company paperwork properly (MOT, Inspection Travelers, Job Sheets, etc.)
• Maintaining correct part counts on the MOT for operations performed
• Ability to hold tolerances of .0002" - .0005" while maintaining a high level of productivity
• Able to work independently and stay on task - operate 2 machines regularly
• Ability to problem‑solve and communicate process improvement suggestions with management
• Communicate job-related issues/questions (part feature, program, inspection, etc.) to lead personnel for resolution or clarification
• Reporting all machine collisions and malfunctions to lead personnel

Required Skills & Abilities

• Familiarity with Mazak machines
• Proficient with standard measuring inspection equipment (Micrometers, Bore Gages, Sunnen Gage, Test Indicators)
• Read and interpret B/P’s including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, GD&T and other standard nomenclature per customer, government or industry standards
• Ability to read and interrupt G & M machine codes and program understanding
• Experience holding tolerances of .0002" - .0005" and surface finish requirements of 16
• Strong attention to detail, quality-focused, and willing to learn
• General knowledge of standard shop practices and equipment

Basic Qualifications

• High School or GED
• 5+ years' experience preferred but not required
• Ability to use computer software, company ERP system, clock in/out of jobs, etc.
• Familiarity with live tooling
• Must be able to stand for the majority of the work shift
