Job Description
This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace. This position requires a public safety background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting. This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
Applicants must pass a comprehensive background investigation including criminal, controlled substance, driving, employment history checks, an oral interview, medical exam including drug screen, psychological and physical agility testing.
The Grade for this position is FF213.
Salary Will Be Based On Qualifications And Experience.
- $51,049 - $81,733 (Starting Salary without a degree)
- $52,580 - $84,185 ( Starting Salary including 3% incentive for an associate degree)
- $ 54,112 - $86,637 (Starting Salary including 6% incentive for a bachelor's degree)

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Responsibilities
This position is for trained and certified Firefighter/EMT and is responsible for performing duties in an assigned division of the department under the supervision of an officer or senior firefighter. The lateral program fast-tracks experienced, certified firefighters and EMTs into field operations. Typical duties of the position include the following and may vary by assignment:
- Respond to emergency calls
- Participate in training and community outreach
- Inspect personal protective equipment
- Check and maintain apparatus and tools
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D., and
- Valid Driver's License from State of Residency; and
- Must be at least 18 years of age; and
- Must currently be a Certified Firefighter/EMT
- Current National Registry (NR) or State of Georgia EMT certification OR higher
- State of GA NPQ Firefighter I and/or Firefighter II
- NPQ Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
Physical Requirements
- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, manual dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be subjected to vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.
