The City of Peoria, AZ is seeking a highly qualified Digital Forensics Unit Detective to join the department's investigative team. The role requires recent DFU experience, maintaining electronic evidence, and working either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday.
Candidates will complete Detective FTO and Patrol FTO training; failure to complete Patrol FTO may lead to reassignment. A one-year probation applies, with on-call duties and possible overtime to support Patrol staffing.
Highly qualified applicants will have at least 3 years’ experience working as a Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) Detective, recovering, analyzing, and preserving electronic evidence, and will either currently be working in the role or have worked in the role within the last 12 months.
Oral Board Interview: An assessment of the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.
Tabletop Exercise: A scenario-based evaluation conducted following the oral board interview to assess decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Employees must successfully complete the following training to qualify for a solo assignment as a DFU Detective.
Detective FTO (DFU): Specialized training focusing on case management, investigative techniques, and DFU-specific procedures.
Patrol FTO: Abbreviated training to establish familiarity with departmental policies, patrol procedures, and operational standards.
Failure to successfully complete the Detective FTO phase will result in reassignment to Patrol, requiring completion of the entire Patrol FTO program. If not successful in the entire Patrol FTO program, employment will be terminated during the probationary period.
Employees are subject to a one-year probationary period. After probation, if an employee’s performance as a DFU Detective does not “Meet Standards”, they will be reassigned to Patrol.
DFU Detectives currently work either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, normally 0700 to 1700.
On-call assignments currently average one week per month.
All Detectives are currently required to assist with filling staffing shortages in Patrol. Assignments are based on Department seniority and require Detectives to work occasional overtime shifts in Patrol.
