Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a Technician Level II to assemble and align fiber and free-space laser systems in manufacturing and R&D settings. You’ll follow detailed instructions, use precision instruments, and record production data in the ERP system.

Responsibilities include building laser assemblies, soldering and crimping, operating splicers and optical instruments, and supporting prototype builds under senior staff guidance. Cleanroom standards and continuous improvement are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience in optics/electronic industry or equivalent training.
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Build laser assemblies (fiber or free-space) per instructions.
• Perform soldering and crimping per procedures.
• Operate fiber splicers, optical test instruments, and alignment tools after training.
• Handle delicate opto-mechanical components and assemblies.
• Perform laser and accessory system alignments after documented procedures.
• Record test results in data systems.
• Follow work instructions and engineering drawings for complex assemblies.
• Support R&D through prototype builds and basic testing.
• Follow cleanroom protocols and maintain cleanliness.
• Provide continuous improvement feedback on procedures.
• Meet output and quality goals.
• Cross-train across production operations.
