Job summary

Thorlabs in Jessup, MD designs and manufactures photonics components and systems. As an Engineering Technician you will assemble and test lasers, support prototype development, and help troubleshoot production equipment in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

You will work with engineers to deliver defect-free products on schedule, document issues, and contribute to continuous improvement while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in semiconductor, laser, or optical production or R&D.
• Bachelor’s degree may waive requirement.
• Ability to handle delicate optical components and sensitive equipment.
• Proficiency with hand tools, microscopes, and optical test equipment.
• Strong MS Office skills.
• Able to shift between tasks as priorities change.
• Experience with optical fibers, hand soldering, laser welding, and fiber splicing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and test lasers and laser systems per work instructions.
• Operate production and engineering test equipment.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on production equipment.
• Document failures, returns, and service issues.
• Propose design or process improvements for quality and manufacturability.
• Maintain production equipment and monitor performance.
