Job description

Precision matters. Ownership matters. The work we do matters.

At Martin Concrete Construction, we take pride in building more than structures. We build careers, develop skilled professionals, and create opportunities for our employees to grow and succeed. As an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, our employees are more than team members — they’re owners with a direct stake in the success of the company.

We’re currently looking for an experienced Laser Screed Operator to join our team. This role is ideal for an experienced concrete professional who understands the importance of precision, productivity, safety, and quality on every pour.

As a Laser Screed Operator, you will play an important role in the successful placement and finishing of concrete. You’ll operate laser screed equipment to spread, smooth, and level concrete according to project specifications while working closely with Concrete Finishing Foremen, Superintendents, and field crews.

This is a hands-on, field-based position where technical skill, concrete knowledge, communication, and the ability to work safely and efficiently are essential. You’ll be responsible for producing quality work, meeting production goals, maintaining equipment, and helping direct the placement of concrete around the equipment.

If you take pride in your work, understand concrete placement, and enjoy working in a fast-paced field environment where precision and teamwork matter, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate laser screed equipment to spread, smooth, and level concrete according to project specifications.
  • Ensure concrete is placed at the correct depth and maintains the required workable consistency for each pour.
  • Work quickly, productively, and safely while consistently meeting production goals established by the Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Use technical knowledge of concrete and laser screed operations to achieve quality results with minimal errors.
  • Coordinate concrete truck dumping and help ensure an efficient and organized concrete placement process.
  • Work closely with the Concrete Finishing Foreman and Superintendent to identify and resolve issues or additional needs during pours.
  • Help direct field personnel working around the equipment to ensure concrete is placed correctly and efficiently.
  • Assist in mentoring and training laborers and assistant finishers to help build skills and strengthen the finishing team.
  • Set up and tear down laser screed equipment as required for each pour.
  • Properly position and secure the laser and laser eyes in a safe location at the completion of each pour.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and perform basic repairs on laser screed equipment using hand tools onsite.
  • Report equipment malfunctions that cannot be corrected onsite to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Properly fuel the laser screed at the end of each pour or communicate any issues preventing completion.
  • Complete required pre- and post-pour inspection forms for every pour requiring the use of a laser screed.
  • Correctly perform laser screed calibration procedures.
  • Load and unload tools and equipment from trucks.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and immediately bring potential hazards to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Director.
  • Follow all required PPE and jobsite safety procedures.
  • Perform all responsibilities in a manner that protects both employees and company equipment.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial, industrial, tilt-up, or multi-story concrete finishing.
  • Proficiency with common concrete finishing tools and equipment, including bull floats, straight edges, jointers, edgers, trowel machines, brooms, shovels, and related hand tools.
  • Must be willing and able to successfully complete Martin Concrete’s laser screed training program, including training provided by Somero.
  • Must be physically capable of performing manual labor, including heavy lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, lift overhead, and walk/work on rough terrain as required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to all jobsite locations as required, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and project team members.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions and complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be available to work overtime and weekends as project needs require.
  • Must be willing and able to work night shifts when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA Certification
  • ACI Certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
