Job summary

Athena Manufacturing, LP in Austin, TX is seeking a Laser Operator I to manage the CNC laser cutting machine and support the production team. You will operate machinery, assemble parts, and ensure parts meet quality standards while following ISO and OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with 2+ years related experience.
  • Experience on Trumpf, Amada or similar CNC laser cutting machines (TruDisk/TruFlow preferred).
  • Solid background working with sheet metal.
  • Willingness to follow safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the CNC laser cutting machine and support the production team.
  • Set up lenses, load programs and adjust machine parameters for optimal performance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety rules.
  • Document work and inspection results in travelers and systems.
  • Coordinate with supervisors to ensure defined work scopes and quality.

Job description

Overview:

Laser Operator I, manage the CNC laser cutting machine and support the production team by assembling parts, operating machinery, bending, punching or sawing of metal products as instructed by supervisors. Perform as general operator on a laser machine. Operate the CNC laser cutting machine and other machinery used in the production process, or assist other machine operators. Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness, load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.

  • Documents completion of work or inspection operations on travelers.
  • Performs set-up and first piece / cut inspections.
  • Coordinates with department manager to ensure work scopes are accurately defined.
  • Performs periodic maintenance to equipment in accordance with QMS procedures.
  • Records set-up and run time data into M2M system.
  • Handles material in accordance with QMS procedures.
  • Identifies cost reduction and productivity improvement opportunities to supervisor.
  • Knowledge about shield gases used during laser cutting operation.
  • Monitor fill level of bulk tank system and report reordering levels to the supervisor.
  • Work with automated storage system.
  • Assemble items as instructed by shift leader or floor supervisor.
  • Prepare product for shipment.
  • Lift raw materials, final products, and items packed for shipment, manually, or using hoist.
  • Operate machinery used in the production process, or assist machine operators.
  • Uphold all ISO and OSHA standards applicable to the responsibilities above.
Requirements
Qualifications: Minimum Preferred Qualifications, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related experience. One year of related experience may substitute for one year of education up to a maximum of 4 years.
  • 2+ years of experience on Trumpf, Amada or similar CNC laser cutting machines (TruDisk/TruFlow preferred).
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Solid background working with sheet metal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential physical requirements pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:
  • Strength — (Heavy)- Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Movement- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, twisting, bending
  • Auditory- talking and hearing
  • Vision-near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision, field of vision
  • Environment conditions and physical surroundings-noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions

  • Comfortable with Technology, open to learning/coachable
  • Made2Mange (M2M and SFM)
  • Warehouse and inventory systems
REQUIRED WORK CLOTHING AND PPE: Attire should not interfere with job performance or safety.
  • Safety glasses are provided by Athena
  • Closed toe safety shoes are required
