Job summary

Smyth County Machine is seeking a reliable CNC Laser Operator for the 2nd shift to operate laser cutting equipment and support fabrication processes in a fast-paced environment.

You will set up machines, choose lenses, nest programs, read blueprints, and ensure quality output while maintaining safety. Experience with Trumpf/Amada laser systems and AutoCAD or TruTops is highly valued; willingness to work weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating CNC laser cutting machines (Trumpf, Amada, or similar).
• Strong blueprint reading and mathematical skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.

Job description

We are seeking a reliable CNC Laser Operator to join our 2nd shift production team. This role is responsible for operating CNC laser cutting equipment and supporting various fabrication processes. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and can adjust to changing production demands.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate CNC laser cutting machines and assist with other production equipment as needed
• Set up and configure machines, including selecting appropriate lenses based on material type and thickness
• Nest and load programs and adjust machine parameters to ensure optimal performance and quality output
• Demonstrate knowledge of shield gases used in laser cutting operations
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately
• Perform basic to advanced measurements, including fraction and decimal conversions
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards
• Work collaboratively to meet production goals and deadlines
• Handle raw materials and finished products manually or with lifting equipment (e.g., hoists)
• Support additional fabrication processes such as bending, punching, and sawing as directed
• Work independently with minimal supervision after training

Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating CNC laser cutting machines (Trumpf, Amada, or similar)
• Strong blueprint reading and mathematical skills
• Experience with AutoCAD and TruTops programming highly preferred
• Solid background in sheet metal fabrication, including tooling and tool maintenance
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including shifts and occasional weekends
