Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. is seeking a Laser Operator to join our Norlen team. The role focuses on operating laser cutting equipment, reading drawings, and ensuring part accuracy through precision inspection.

The position requires basic math and computer skills, with onboarding through a registered apprenticeship program. The candidate will work in a safety-conscious environment with routine maintenance and material handling responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection and measurement skills.
• Minimum 2 years of similar job experience preferred.
• Basic math skills required.
• Basic computer skills or comfort using a computer.
• Must meet physical requirements for vision, hearing and mobility.
• Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate laser cutting machines (Amada).
• Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures.
• Load and unload materials using forklifts.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
• Maintain and clean laser equipment and work area.
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy using calipers, micrometers, etc.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.

As a Laser Operator at Norlen, part of Ryerson family of companies, you will be responsible for operationg of our laser cutting machines.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate laser cutting machines (Amada)
• Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures
• Load and unload raw materials and finished product using forklifts
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and job orders
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laser equipment and designated work area
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, etc.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Minimum 2 years of similar job experience preferred
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training
