Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to adjust laser parameters and nesting programs as needed.
• Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Execute laser schedule (Flat or Tube) based on Priority from Velocity Board and Production Manager.
• Modify programs, parameters, and nesting to optimize cut time and reduce waste.
• Perform routine Laser Blitz to utilize remnant material and cover breaks and absences.
• Conduct routine machine maintenance and coordinate with manufacturers as needed.
• Perform quality checks on own and coworkers' work to meet specs.
• Maintain documentation of machine usage, work orders and QA records.

As a Laser Operator at Excelsior, part of Ryerson family of companies, you will safely and efficiently operate laser cutting machines, prioritizing tasks, Responsibilities include selecting the correct material type, size and thickness while maximizing material yield. You must be skilled in setting up multiple machines, optimizing parameters and ensuring quality cuts with efficient feed rates.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Execute laser schedule (Flat or Tube) based on priorities from the Velocity Board and Production Manager
• Modify programs, parameters, and nesting to ensure safe machine paths, minimize material waste and optimize cut time
• Perform scheduled "Laser Blitz" to utilize remnant material with minimal downtime Provide backup support by covering breaks, lunches, and absences of other laser operators
• Conduct routine machine maintenance, troubleshoot issues and coordinate with manufacturers as needed
• Perform quality assurance checks on own work and coworkers' to meet customer specifications
• Maintain accurate documentation of machine usage, work orders and QA records

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of material types, thickness, grades and machine flow
• Understanding of machine opeartion and material cutting times
• Ability to adjust laser parameters and nesting programs as needed
• Capable of performing minor machine maintenance
• Skilled in managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to plan, organize and execute daily production tasks
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training

Wage: $25 - $27.85 hourly. A starting hourly wage higher than $25 is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale .
