Job summary

Gestamp is seeking a LASER ENGINEER / TECHNICIAN to work directly in our laser cutting shop. This role supports engineering and ensures compliance with safety and quality standards.

Candidates should possess at least a 2-year Associate's Degree in engineering and have relevant experience in the automotive industry. Responsibilities include assisting with process documentation and adhering to safety policies.

The position requires strong people skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in an Automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Can demonstrate work experience ideally within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with all OSHA, safety, and PPE requirements.
  • Assist the maintenance team during major fault issues.
  • Support the Quality group in evaluating product reports.
  • Be part of engineering change teams and implementation.

Job description

LASER ENGINEER / TECHNICIAN

This position is to work directly in our laser cutting shop with Trumpf (laser), Prima & Shape process. It will support Engineering in their duties in an efficient and conscious manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Understand and comply with all OSHA, safety, and PPE requirements
  • Understand and comply with all TS16949 & ISO-14001, AIAG requirements.
  • Health & Safety of self and colleagues, including outside contractors or support personnel.
  • Assist the maintenance team during major fault issues and help determine repetitive downtime causes.
  • Be part of engineering change teams and implementation.
  • Assist with the generation of Process Flow Charts, Set‑up Sheets, Work Instructions & Line Layouts.
  • Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies.
  • Prepare, record, and document line speed demonstration events for the customer.
  • Assist in applying ergonomic and safety metrics and tools in the development and implementation of tools and processes for new model implementation.
  • Support upcoming launch requirements with line/press/equipment capacity studies.
  • Be current in the latest technology and trends concerning stamping and automation operations.
  • Support the Quality group in the evaluation and improvement of product dimensional reports.
  • Support team functions by:
    • Kaizen submittal and implementation
    • Cross‑training with others
    • Backfills other work stations as needed
    • Problem solving
    • Supports operational metrics and meets operational needs
  • Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • At least a 2‑year Associate's Degree in Industrial/Manufacturing/Mechanical/Electronics Engineering or Technology and/or the equivalent work experience.
  • At least 2 years of job‑related experience in an Automotive manufacturing environment/industry or 4 years minimum in a non‑automotive manufacturing environment/industry.
  • Can demonstrate work experience, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Basic understanding of Ergonomics and Safety in work environments, both in processes and equipment.
  • Strong people skills with a willingness to empower the team.
  • Effectively able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Basic understanding of Lean Principals & Tools, APQP, TS16949 & ISO-14001 requirements.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, Capacity Studies, Time & Motion concepts.
  • Working knowledge of electronics/robotics/automation, such as sensors, device interfaces, and controls.
