Job summary

Gateway Laser Services in Maryland Heights, MO, seeks a Laser Engineer to support production, combining hands-on work with process optimization in a small, dynamic environment.

You will work with our Technical Director, Production Managers, and Engineers, plus Quality and Management teams to deliver high-quality parts to customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical laser engineering degree.
• 3+ years of experience in laser micromachining or related field.
• Ability to read and extract critical information from engineering drawings.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Microsoft 365.

Responsibilities

• Manage the lifecycle of production jobs from review to post-laser processing.
• Maintain and repair laser systems and other in-house equipment.
• Conduct feasibility studies and material tests for R&D.
• Train and support Laser Technicians across multiple systems.
• Collaborate with Quality and cross-functional teams to improve efficiency.

Since 1999, Gateway Laser Services has been a leader in precision laser micromachining. We work with some of the world’s largest companies across various industries including life sciences/medical device, electronics/semiconductors, scientific instruments, aerospace/defense, automotive, and more. Our state-of-the-art facility- located in Maryland Heights, Missouri- houses over 20 laser systems and 4 high-precision measurement systems.

Position Summary

Laser Engineers play an integral role supporting overall production and ensuring smooth job and project execution. This role combines hands-on technical work with process optimization in a small, dynamic production environment. Laser Engineers work closely with our Technical Director, Production Managers, and Engineers, along with our Quality and Management teams to help deliver high-quality parts to customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the lifecycle of production jobs, including initial review, programming, setup, laser processing, and post-laser processing operations
• Maintain and repair numerous laser systems along with other in-house manufacturing equipment
• Conduct feasibility studies and various material tests to support research and development initiatives
• Train and support Laser Technicians across multiple laser systems and customer jobs/projects
• Collaborate with Quality Management team and other cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve efficiency

Required Qualifications

• Technical degree in laser engineering or bachelor's degree in engineering
• 3+ years of experience with laser micromachining or related field
• Experience reading and extracting critical information from engineering drawings
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
