Job summary

NAMSA is seeking a Veterinary Technician in Minneapolis to dispense medications, monitor animal health, and perform routine clinical tasks in a regulated study environment.

The role requires an Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology or 4 years of related experience, with preferred CVT/ALAT certification and a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field. Candidates must be comfortable with animal handling and potentially lifting up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology or 4 years of related experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline is preferred.
• Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or ALAT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dispenses medications as prescribed by veterinarian and/or protocol specifications.
• Performs and documents routine clinical observations, charting physiological data and animal health status.
• Administers start-up medications and monitors fasting of animals and clinical observations.
• Monitors animals during recovery phase post-surgery, including TPRs, auscultation and pain assessment.
• Performs intravenous blood draws.
• Performs preventive health maintenance including vaccinations, ointment applications, hoof/nail trims and related tasks.
• Follows procedures and study protocols meeting veterinarian criteria.
• Communicates with veterinary staff and study directors regarding animal status and living conditions.
• Assists with training newer large animal research technicians.
• Assists with other duties as assigned.

Education

Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology

Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline (preferred)

CVT or ALAT certification (preferred)
