Job summary

Thornton Tomasetti | Laptop Refresh Technician needed in New York City’s Financial District. This on-site role supports the IT team with laptop imaging, deployment, and data migration, ensuring devices meet company standards and security requirements.

You will document transfers, coordinate with departments, and provide first-line troubleshooting while working Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, in our Manhattan office. This entry point offers hands-on IT exposure and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• College degree in IT or 2+ years of IT service experience.
• Familiarity with Windows 10/11, Active Directory, imaging tools (SCCM/MDT).
• Basic knowledge of hardware setup, software installation, and troubleshooting.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs; work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, image, and configure new laptops according to company standards.
• Migrate user data and settings from old devices to new laptops.
• Schedule and coordinate laptop deployments with employees and departments.
• Collect, inventory, and decommission old laptops following security protocols.
• Install necessary applications and updates on new devices.
• Provide first-level support during and after deployment to ensure user satisfaction.
• Document asset transfers and update the inventory management system.
• Work closely with the IT team to troubleshoot deployment issues.
• Ensure compliance with company IT security policies throughout the refresh process.
• Must be able to work independently at times with limited supervision.
• Have excellent customer service skills, be willing to take ownership of a ticket, and engage other departments if necessary to resolve.

Your Role

The Laptop Refresh Technician will need excellent organizational skills, excellent communication skills and ability to work and collaborate with the wider IT Team, who are based in the US, Canada, UK and India. As this role requires hands-on service, the position is on-site in our Manhattan, NY (Financial District) office. This role offers an excellent entry point into IT support, providing valuable hands-on experience and exposure to a broad range of IT disciplines. This position is Monday through Friday shift, 8am – 5pm in our New York City office.

What You'll Bring

• College degree in any IT Discipline or 2+ years equivalent work experience.
• Familiarity with Windows 10/11, Microsoft Office, Active Directory, and imaging tools (e.g., SCCM, MDT, or similar).
• Basic knowledge of hardware setup, software installation, and basic troubleshooting.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to lift and move equipment as required (up to 25 lbs)
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Compensation

The rate for this position generally is $26 - $31 hourly. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
