Job description

Performs manual labor, semi-skilled, and technical work in landscape maintenance, ornamental horticulture, and/or construction and maintenance of County grounds and facilities. Serves as a lead worker assisting in the training and direction of entry-level seasonal employees. Operates a variety of hand and power tools to perform landscaping, construction, and custodial duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school graduate or equivalent and 2-3 years of related experience, or any combination of education and experience.
2. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with a good driving record.
3. Must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Certified Pesticide Applicator (State Category 3a and 3b), or have the ability to obtain such license within 6 months of employment.

Additional Requirements:

• Dependability and good physical condition.
• Safety shoes required.
• Work is performed outdoors under all weather conditions with exposure to typical hazards of outside maintenance and construction work.
• This position is classified as an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA), requiring the employee to report during inclement and extreme weather conditions, outside normal hours, or as directed by a supervisor.
• Pre-employment DMV records and criminal background checks are required.
• Must be physically able to operate machinery and equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, chippers, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, hand tools, shovels, hoes, rakes, pruning equipment, etc., and to operate a motor vehicle. The work involves heavy lifting, carrying materials, bending, stooping, standing, and walking during groundskeeping and construction activities.
