Job summary

Connecticut College seeks a skilled Groundskeeper to join our Grounds Maintenance team on the historic campus in New London, CT. The role focuses on landscape and hardscape upkeep across campus facilities, athletic fields, and waterfront areas, with on-call duties and emergency response during severe weather or events.

The position requires 4–7 years of trade experience, valid driver's license, and the ability to operate a wide range of equipment.

Qualifications

• 4–7 years of general experience in a trade area.
• Knowledge of landscape plant care, maintenance and sustainability.
• Basic turf grass management knowledge.
• Knowledge of pesticides and application methods.
• Interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to keep shop records, interpret and read blueprints.
• Ability to utilize CMMS software.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, installs and maintains decorative landscaping features for gardens, containers, borders and beds.
• Clears brush, debris and leaves from lawns and catch basins.
• Hauls materials, grades and slopes work sites; pulls weeds, mulches, waters and fertilizes.
• Maintains turf by seeding, mowing and fertilizing.
• Maintains recreational sports fields.
• Operates and maintains heavy equipment and power tools.
• Performs pre-treatment and snow/ice removal.
• Assists arborists with tree pruning or felling.
• Keeps landscape sheds and areas orderly.
• Removes trash and manages waste.
• Ensures OSHA and college policies are followed and tracks work orders.
• May direct students or contractors; may apply pesticides under supervision.
