Job summary

Town of Front Royal is seeking an enthusiastic maintenance worker to join our Horticulture team. You will perform landscape maintenance on trees, shrubs and flowers, mow, trim, and assist with construction and repair projects to keep our community looking its best.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, 1+ year horticulture experience, valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within six months and a Flagger Certification within three months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year horticulture maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to operate mowing equipment and landscape tools.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL/flagger qualifications pursued after hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform property maintenance tasks; operate mowers, weed eater, blowers, edger and other equipment as needed; trim shrubs and bushes.
• Plant grass, trees and flowers; seed, fertilize and aerate fields.
• Perform manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets, utilities, and related facilities.
• Operate all manner of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, pitch forks, hose trowels, weed diggers, pruners, loppers and hand saws.
• Inspect and clean high visibility areas for ground trash and debris; collect ground trash in all areas before mowing; pick up and dispose of debris and deceased animals from the road way.
• Operate dump trucks, mowers, chain saws, pumps, mixers, trimmers, tractors, skid loader and similar equipment.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and repair.
• Perform flagging duties.
• Assist with snow and ice removal.
