Position Overview
A Landscape Care Team Technician is an experienced team member working under the supervision of the team leader. The primary function of a Landscape Care Team Technician is to assist the Landscape Care Team Leader in performing horticultural services on client properties. The technician operates a variety of equipment and possesses thorough horticultural knowledge, including lighting, water gardens, and irrigation.
Job Functions
- Review job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on a daily basis.
- Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans.
- Have working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used.
- Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques.
- Perform the following landscape services:
- Landscape bed maintenance: spray and pull weeds.
- Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and dead heading.
- Plant health: identify, diagnose, and treat plant health issues regarding diseases and insects.
- Irrigation: minor irrigation repairs.
- Water features: care & maintenance of pumps, aquatic plants, water chemistry, and fish.
- Lighting: repair and replace low‑voltage lighting.
- Floral services: annual plant identification, bed preparation, proper plant installation, layout, care and maintenance.
- Spring clean‑ups: bed cleanout, bed edging, pre‑emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation.
- Blowing: using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces.
- Snow removal.
- Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment including but not limited to hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re‑definers, rototiller, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, tape measure, plumb bob, and level.
- Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits them to the team leader.
- Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities, and knows limits of work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed outdoors with limited control of noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. The technician must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly. The team member is expected to work the assigned hours, Monday through Friday, as well as weekends and overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a typical workday of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Requirements
- A high school degree or GED is required along with two years of documented experience in the green industry.
- Great verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management.
- Strong analytical problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals.
- Ability to use Google Translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish‑speaking workers.
- Assist team leader with training and coaching a team of two or more members to help develop their skills and ensure proper training.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensure truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.
- Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and on budget to quality standards.
- Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs.
- Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations.
- Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance.
- Work as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude.

Certifications
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record.
- VDACS Registered Tech Certification.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
Salary: $17.25+ (hourly).
