Galbraith’s Landscaping & Lawn Care is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee daily field operations for mowing, lawn care, and landscape installation crews in Fort Wayne, IN. This hands-on leadership role focuses on staffing, equipment readiness, and efficient daily execution.

You will identify obstacles, coach crew leaders into stronger supervisors, and drive productivity while ensuring safety and quality. Occasional hiring, onboarding, and training support are expected.

Qualifications

• Management or supervisory experience in landscaping or similar field.
• Strong leadership and employee-management skills.

• Strong understanding of labor productivity and job efficiency.
• Experience purchasing materials, supplies, equipment, or repair parts preferred.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations for mowing, lawn care, landscape maintenance, and landscape installation crews.
• Coordinate daily and weekly schedules with office staff and crew leaders.
• Ensure crews leave the shop prepared, properly staffed, properly supplied, and on time.
• Monitor route completion, labor hours, productivity, and job performance.
• Hold crew leaders and team members accountable for company standards and production goals.
• Visit jobsites regularly to inspect quality, productivity, safety, and professionalism.
• Identify inefficient work practices and implement improvements.
• Help crews recover from weather delays, staffing shortages, equipment failures, and schedule disruptions.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and development of field employees.
• Coach and develop crew leaders into stronger supervisors.
• Address performance, attendance, attitude, and accountability issues promptly.

Description

Galbraith’s Landscaping & Lawn Care is seeking an experienced, organized, and results-driven Operations Manager to oversee the daily field operations of our lawn and landscape divisions.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for keeping crews staffed, equipped, organized, productive, and moving efficiently throughout the day. The Operations Manager is expected to quickly identify and remove the obstacles that slow crews down, including staffing issues, missing materials, equipment problems, poor planning, and schedule conflicts.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations for mowing, lawn care, landscape maintenance, and landscape installation crews
• Coordinate daily and weekly schedules with office staff and crew leaders
• Ensure crews leave the shop prepared, properly staffed, properly supplied, and on time

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Previous management or supervisory experience in landscaping, lawn care, construction, property maintenance, or a similar field
• Strong leadership and employee-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple crews and priorities at the same time
• Strong understanding of labor productivity and job efficiency
• Experience purchasing materials, supplies, equipment, or repair parts is preferred
• Ability to maintain inventory and anticipate operational needs
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable holding employees accountable when expectations are not met
• Strong communication skills with employees, customers, vendors, and management
• Basic understanding of commercial lawn and landscape equipment
• Ability to use scheduling, timekeeping, purchasing, and job-management software
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to work outdoors and visit active jobsites regularly

Ideal Canidate

The ideal Operations Manager is not someone who simply manages schedules from an office.

We are looking for a leader who understands that crew productivity depends heavily on preparation. A four-person crew waiting for a $20 belt, missing material, or unavailable piece of equipment can quickly cost the company far more than the item itself.

This person should consistently think several days ahead, anticipate what crews will need, maintain appropriate inventory, and make sure equipment and materials are ready before they become urgent.

The Operations Manager should constantly be asking:

Are our people, equipment, parts, and materials ready to complete the work safely, efficiently, on time, and to the level of quality our customers expect?

When the answer is no, this position is responsible for identifying the problem and getting a solution in place before production is affected.
