Job summary

Georgetown University is seeking a Landscape Gardener to perform maintenance and upkeep of campus grounds, including mowing, trimming, irrigation, mulching, and seasonal tasks.

You will work under the Landscape and Grounds Supervisor as part of a maintenance team, contributing to an attractive, safe, and clean environment for the university community.

This is a full-time, on-campus position with standard safety rules and opportunities to grow skills while supporting campus operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency required.
• 1–3 years of grounds landscape maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate pickups, tractors, skid-steer loaders, ATVs and other equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform grass mowing, trimming, edging and weed removal as part of campus grounds care.
• Irrigate lawns and plant beds, mulch, and manage flower beds and tree saucers.
• Lay sod and assist in pesticide applications, pressure washing, and related landscape tasks.
• Follow safety rules and work as part of the landscape maintenance team.

Job Overview

Performs landscape gardener work by preparing and maintaining landscaped areas as part of the services provided by the Facilities Management department to maintain university buildings and grounds. Duties include grass mowing, trimming and edging, removal of weeds and daily policing of the grounds, irrigating lawns and planted areas, mulching, reactivating flower beds and tree saucers, laying sod assisting in the application of pesticides and other related work like pressure washing. Incumbent is assigned to a central landscape maintenance group and performs semi-skilled landscape labor work in accordance with industry/trade practices. Workers perform monthly assignments according to seasonal schedules, in response to requests for service (e.g. preventive maintenance of storm drain throughout the campus) and in response to emergencies. Incumbent use all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observes all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing their duties.

Work Interactions

The position reports directly to the Landscape and Grounds Supervisor along with eight other laborers Gardener II and Gardener positions. The position reports indirectly to the Gardener II or Gardener positions. The position is part of a landscape maintenance team that receives training and experience vital to the maintenance of exterior space on the campus, generally referred to as landscape maintenance. This worker supports a direct service of the department in ensuring an attractive, comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High School Diploma required or equivalency
• Requires one to three years of grounds landscape maintenance experience
• Requires valid driver's license and ability to operate pickup trucks, tractors, skid steer loaders, all- terrain vehicles and other specialized grounds equipment.
