Job description

This Landscape & Hardscape Field Operations Lead role drives the successful installation and execution of high-end landscape, hardscape, drainage, grading, and outdoor living projects. The primary objective is to independently lead projects, direct field crews, maintain strict quality standards, and proactively solve problems on the jobsite. During the winter months, this full-time, year-round position transitions to support tree crews and other off-season duties, with absolutely no snow removal required.

Based in the Pittsburgh, PA area, this premier landscape design and tree care firm specializes in high-end residential projects and non-profit community renovations. The organization operates on the principle that taking care of employees ensures the business thrives, heavily prioritizing wellness, work-life balance, and long‑term health over typical industry burnout. Joining this growing company offers unparalleled stability, modern equipment, a supportive culture, and clear pathways for career advancement into management.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $30.00–$40.00 per hour based upon experience.
  • Performance-based advancement and overtime opportunities.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Full-time, year-round employment with opportunities for flexible 30-to-40-hour workweeks to support work-life balance.
  • Company-paid Planet Fitness membership and a monthly wellness credit for activities such as yoga or massages.
  • Professional development support, including a three-year financial sponsorship pathway for obtaining a CDL or Arborist certification.
  • Company-provided uniforms, safety equipment, and access to professional-grade tools.
  • Clear advancement opportunities into Project Management, Operations Management, and Department Leadership roles.
Responsibilities
  • Lead daily field operations on landscape, hardscape, drainage, grading, and outdoor living projects while ensuring quality workmanship and maintaining production goals.
  • Work hands‑on alongside the crew to demonstrate proper techniques and lead by example, rather than simply directing from the sidelines.
  • Navigate and maneuver trucks and trailers safely through challenging, narrow, and hilly terrain, such as brick roads.
  • Interpret blueprints and project layouts using software like Real-Time Landscape Architect Pro and SketchUp, performing accurate site measurements.
  • Operate compact equipment efficiently, perform routine preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot minor tool or trailer issues in the field.
  • Communicate professionally with clients on active jobsites, answering basic questions and notifying management of potential scope changes.

  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills, uncompromised integrity, and a positive, coachable attitude.
  • Willingness to remain flexible and transition to different operational teams, such as carpentry or tree work, during the winter months.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Class A or B CDL, relevant industry certifications, bilingual abilities (English/Spanish), or a formal degree in Horticulture, Landscape Contracting, or a related field.
