Job summary

Perkins&Will’s Boston studio is seeking a Landscape Designer I to contribute to landscapes and public spaces at multiple scales while growing within a collaborative, interdisciplinary design team.

You will work with landscape architects, urban designers, architects, planners and other specialists to support design process steps under guidance, aligning with project goals and Living Design standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, architecture, or related field required.
• Professional Accreditation in Living Design (e.g., LEED AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, ILFI) encouraged.
• Preparing for LARE.

Responsibilities

• Contribute creative ideas and a strong design sensibility to landscape and public realm projects.
• Assist in preparing drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
• Develop design sketches, renderings, models, diagrams for presentation materials.
• Support project teams with digital modelling, physical models, visualization, research, and rendering.
• Explore sites via research, analysis, mapping, and qualitative/quantitative methods.
• Compile data and perform design computations.
• Self-check work for accuracy and compliance with manuals.
• Participate in design reviews, workshops, and team communications.
• Collaborate across disciplines and coordinate with partners and consultants.

Come join our Boston studio as a Landscape Designer I. As a Landscape Designer I, you will contribute to the design of landscapes and public spaces at a range of scales while developing your skills as part of a collaborative and interdisciplinary design team.

Working with landscape architects, urban designers, architects, planners, and other specialists, you will assist throughout the design process under routine guidance and contribute to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in landscape design, execution, and Living Design.

You will be:

• Contributing creative ideas, curiosity, and a strong design sensibility to landscape and public realm projects.
• Assisting in the preparation of drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
• Assisting in developing design sketches, renderings, models, diagrams, and graphics for presentation materials.
• Supporting project teams through digital modelling, physical model building, visualization, research, and rendering.
• Exploring sites through research, analysis, observation, mapping, and other quantitative and qualitative methods.
• Compiling data and performing design computations.
• Using a creative approach to complete tasks and responsibilities on projects in an organized, timely, and consistent way.
• Self-checking work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
• Asking questions, sharing ideas, and expressing curiosity about landscape architecture, cities, design, and the wider world.
• Taking increasing ownership of individual tasks while contributing to project teams and Boston studio activities.
• Participating actively in design reviews, charrettes, workshops, and pin-ups.
• Keeping open communication within the team and with designated team leaders.
• Communicating ideas and design thinking clearly through drawings, diagrams, models, graphics, and conversation.
• Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and assisting with coordination among partners and consultants.

Typical Years of Requisite Experience: 1-3+ years

Professional Licensure: Not Required

Obtaining your landscape architectural license will result in a title change to Landscape Architect I. It does not predicate your title to Landscape Architect automatically. Advancement to subsequent positions is contingent upon fulfilling the requirements of that role.

• Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation
• Preparing for LARE
