Work under the supervision of the Greenscapes Supervisor to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment in the City’s open spaces, rights of ways, and green belt areas and to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and private sectors about special projects, events, and/or maintenance related concerns in the provision of the highest level of service possible to all customers.
- Work in conjunction with Greenscapes Supervisor to schedule, coordinate, and perform maintenance on medians, right of ways, and municipal landscape beds in the City.
- Supervise and collaborate with crew members in the performance of various landscape maintenance, including, but not limited to:
Preparation and updating of the landscape route and schedule via Google Sheets
Preparation and updating of the irrigation schedule and maintenance log via Google Sheets
Scheduling of contractual irrigation repairs, as needed
Weed removal, debris cleanup, and application of pesticides in medians, right of ways, and landscape beds
Installation of new plant material, as needed
Trimming of grasses, shrubs, and trees in medians to avoid line of sight hazards
Mulch installation and maintenance in landscape beds
Off season tree trimming and chipping
- Operate power tools such as edgers, weed eaters, chain saws, rotary tillers, hammer drills, etc.
- Operate equipment such as zero turn mowers, utility vehicles, field groomers, and tractors with attachments.
- Conduct regular inspections of landscape beds, medians, and right of ways to identify and prioritize issues accordingly.
- Use Cityworks to maintain all records of landscape maintenance operations.
- Read and suggest edits to construction plans in accordance with best maintenance practices.
- Prepare for and implement the ordering of materials, equipment, and supplies to complete assigned tasks.
- Attend various training classes to obtain information on current products, practices, and trends in the open space maintenance field.
- Oversee service and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for special events.
- May be required to perform other department duties as assigned.

- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
- Ability to proficiently operate a computer and work order management software
- Good organizational skills, creativity, initiative, and a desire to learn
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance and irrigation systems
- Knowledge of operating various types of tractors, mowers, and equipment needed for maintenance operations
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Completion of an 8 hour TDA approved chemical safety class for application of herbicides/pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator within 6 months of hire
- Background in landscape maintenance
- Irrigation Technician or Chemical Applicator license; if not held, must be able to obtain either within 6 months of hire
Preferred:
- 1+ year(s) of supervisory experience.
