Job description

Major Areas of Focus

Crew Leaders (CL) are front-line workers who work alone or oversee a crew of up to 5 technicians. They are responsible for the equipment, work production, and team members assigned to them. CLs work hard side by side with technicians to complete the work. They ensure the work is done safely, efficiently, and with quality. This position reports to a Project Manager and may be supported by a Field Supervisor.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may also be assigned:
Client Management
  • Professionally represents East Coast Facilities, Inc. at all times.
  • Responds properly to clients and follows up to ensure their needs are met to their satisfaction.
  • Recognizes when they do not have the answer for the client and informs them they will find out or involve the Project Manager.
  • Keeps the Project Manager informed of all client concerns and communications on the job site.
  • Maintains a positive, responsive, and flexible attitude towards all clients.
  • Inspects sites and advises the Project Manager of potential liabilities.
Crew Supervision
  • Ensures that the crew meets the projected man and material budgets on assigned work tickets.
  • Prepares and secures all materials, tools, and equipment first thing in the morning for that day's work schedule.
  • Refuels equipment, submits paperwork to the office, cleans the service vehicle, and prepares for the next day's activities.
  • Assigns tasks to crew members (if applicable) and follows up to ensure proper completion of work.
  • Ensures all crew members report to work on time and follow all company rules and procedures.
  • Implements disciplinary actions as necessary and involves a Production Manager when needed.
Crew Training
  • Ensures crew members are trained on company safety policies.
  • Certifies crews in the job tasks assigned to the Crew Leader.
  • Trains crew members (if applicable) to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently.
  • Cross-trains crew members for future growth in the Crew Leader role.
  • Communicates effectively in English and/or Spanish about training content.
Performance Reviews
  • Evaluates the performance of the crew.
  • Assists the Project Manager in conducting performance reviews for crew members.
  • Monitors progress based on evaluation processes and goals.
Safety Management
  • Maintains and promotes safe working conditions at all times.
  • Follows company procedures regarding discipline for safety rule violations.
  • Seeks to have zero preventable accidents.
Image Compliance
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and professional appearance of the service vehicle and trailer.
  • Ensures crew members maintain a professional image using approved uniforms and appropriate conduct.
Equipment Management
  • Ensures all assigned equipment, tools, safety items, vehicles, and trailers are properly maintained following schedules.
  • Is accountable for neglect and abuse of assigned equipment.
Administrative
  • Possesses basic reading and writing skills.
  • Organizes and implements work schedules.
  • Responsible for completing forms and procedures such as:
  • Accident Reporting Forms, Equipment Inventory, Equipment Repairs, Monthly Vehicle Safety Inspections, Quality Control Inspections, and other applicable forms.
General Qualifications
  • Effective communication skills in English, including basic reading and writing.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license.
  • Drives company vehicles as directed.
  • Operates various types of equipment and machinery related to the job.
  • Is a journeyman in one or more specialized landscape or arbor care categories, such as landscape maintenance, construction, restoration, tree trimming, or irrigation.
  • Performs other tasks related to landscape management.
  • Winter season operations (if applicable): plowing, shoveling, applying de-icing agents, pre-storm prep, and post-storm cleanup.
  • Operates smartphones, manages emails, takes digital photos.
  • Passes drug tests and criminal background checks.
  • Adheres to business ethics, laws, and confidentiality requirements.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
  • Works near automotive traffic and natural bodies of water.
  • Works with work lifts and in extreme temperatures (0-95°F).
  • Works in direct sunlight and wintry conditions.
  • Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.
  • Performs physical activities such as bending, stooping, and twisting.
