Job description

The position at ACU requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to support the Christian mission of ACU. Multiple positions are available: Team Lead, Landscape & Grounds Tech, Groundskeeper, Landscape Gardener.

Basic Responsibilities

• Work as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Landscape & Grounds.
• Work as a team maintaining the landscape & grounds in your zone to enhance the beauty of ACU.
• Assist other trades & grounds personnel as needed in spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
• Continue to develop & cross‑train in a manner that keeps personnel up‑to‑date and safe.

Essential Duties

• Follow established rules, policies, and procedures of the Landscape and Grounds Department and ACU.
• Order materials and supplies as needed for the completion of work orders.
• Fill out work orders and written reports daily.
• Display necessary work initiative to work alone or in groups.
• Maintain water quality, clean and monitor mechanical parts of fountains in the ACU landscape to the university’s standard.
• Attend ACU‑approved, work‑related training sessions.
• Clean and maintain equipment to extend life of equipment and maintain university resources.
• Perform work in a safe manner.

Professional Development Requirements

• Skills
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Skilled in all areas of water quality and fountain/pool maintenance.
• Training Modules Required
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic safety training.
  • Excellent customer relations and service emphasis.

Qualifications

• Professional
  • High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of hands‑on experience with landscape, grass & interior plant materials.
  • Or Associate degree in Horticulture.
• Personal
  • Honest, trustworthy, dependable, responsible, punctual, with good moral character and work ethic.
  • Must submit to post‑offer, pre‑employment physical examination/medical history check.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license is a requirement.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check.
  • Must maintain neat & clean appearance at all times.

Physical Demands

• Good health & stamina to lift, carry & pull loads in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
• Must be able to climb a ladder.
• Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold weather conditions.
