Job description

Assumes the responsibility for the resources and functions assigned to the grounds department complete maintenance and repair services to university facilities including but not limited to work orders, turf walks, drives, trees, shrubs, flowers, mulch, fences and planting beds. Utilizing initiative and a variety of skills, the Groundskeeper is expected to take training, available resources, equipment, supplies to effectively and efficiently accomplish the functions assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain mowing, fertilizing, watering, reseeding, shrubs, tree care, spraying, flowers, etc.
  • Operate mowers, tractors, weed eaters, backhoes, chain saws, dump truck, edger, street sweeper, etc.
  • Perform assigned tasks with equipment, either hand or power tools, and in accordance with written or oral instructions by the Landscape Superintendent or foreman.
  • Operate a forklift and aerial lift in an efficient manner.
  • Read direction and labels of chemicals, diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Perform other duties necessary assigned by the Landscape Superintendent.
  • Be available to work during emergency situations such as snow or storms, etc.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to hipaa, ferpa and other state and federal mandates.
  • Other job related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 3 years experience of landscaping
  • Must possess a valid NC Driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires knowledge of small equipment such as lawn mowers (push and ride), weed eaters and tractors etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology.
  • Knowledge of /Proficiency with /Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent/good judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict/se t deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work beyond regular hours and occasional weekend.
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires working in inclement weather. Standing, bending and working small equipment such as weed eaters, lawn mowers etc.
  • Requires working long hours in inclement weather.
  • Lifting 75 lbs. without assistant and moving it from one location to another.
  • Working outside in various types of weather and being on call during inclement weather.
