Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Supervisor of Safety for Apex Landfill in Amsterdam, Ohio. You will provide day-to-day field safety support, reinforce safety programs, and work with Operations to monitor activities at the working face, tipping areas, haul roads, and rail-served operations.

The role requires 3–5 years of health and safety experience in a heavy industrial setting, with strong OSHA/DOT knowledge and the ability to train and investigate incidents.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of health and safety or transportation compliance experience
• Experience in solid waste/landfill or heavy industry preferred
• Knowledge of OSHA and DOT/FMCSA requirements
• OEPA/JCGHD familiarity preferred for landfill operations
• Experience conducting field observations, audits and investigations
• Understanding of heavy equipment, traffic controls, PPE, and lockout/tagout
• Strong documentation and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and coaching abilities

Responsibilities

• Promote safety culture with field leadership
• Maintain field presence across landfill operations and maintenance areas
• Conduct safety observations, assessments and audits
• Monitor controls for heavy equipment and site traffic
• Verify SOPs, permits, PPE, and hazard controls are in place
• Lead or support new-hire safety orientation and trainings
• Investigate injuries, incidents, and near-misses; prepare reports
• Assist with injury response and required notifications
• Inspect PPE and safety equipment; track corrective actions
• Support contractor and visitor orientation and drills
• Collect safety data and communicate trends to Safety Leadership
