Job summary

Catawba County Utilities and Engineering is seeking a Landfill Operations Specialist to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment across the landfill, recycling areas, and related sites. The role also supports erosion control, site grading, and daily waste processing tasks in accordance with regulations.

Responsibilities include inspections, logs, and coordination of recycling programs, HouseHold Hazardous Waste events, and related projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2 years' experience operating heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and maintain landfill heavy equipment.
• Perform routine equipment upkeep (greasing, cleaning debris, tires) and report needed repairs.
• Conduct daily inspections and complete required equipment logs.
• Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable materials and ensure proper disposal.
• Cover landfill workface daily.
• Use GPS grading systems for accurate and efficient site work.
• Support operations in electronic, paint, shingle, tire, and white goods recycling areas.
• Assist with Household Hazardous Waste Collection events and other landfill projects.
