Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company in Irwindale, CA is seeking a hands-on labor/clerical assistant for the Landfill Department to support safe, compliant operations. You will direct waste disposal, monitor records, print tickets, and assist with site coordination and reporting.

Job Description

This position provides essential manual labor and clerical support to the Landfill Department, ensuring efficient operations, regulatory compliance, and a safe environment. Key responsibilities include directing waste disposal, maintaining site cleanliness, managing administrative tasks like ticketing and reporting, and assisting with site coordination. The role requires close collaboration with supervisors and adherence to facility policies.

Essential Functions

• Communicate with Dispatcher/Plant Manager to receive instructions via 2-way radio in truck and telephone in yard.
• Visually and analytically (using PID Meter) inspects incoming loads. Directs customer to proper dumping area.
• Prints tickets, monitors pricing, keeps records and log sales
• Conducts litter control/removal, cleans office(s), does landscape maintenance, keeps facility looking clean, orderly and professional.
• Shovels, uses water hose, operates support equipment

Education

• High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.

Experience

• 1-2 years experience in the construction/mining industry.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Must have sufficient level of education to understand oral and written instructions of a technical nature relating to products and vehicles.
• Must have excellent driving skills and the ability to maintain satisfactory customer and public relations in performance of duties.

Other Requirements

• Maintain daily reports as required by Company regulations.
• May be required to operate forklift, bobcats, manlifts, water truck as needed.
• Assist in maintenance and upkeep of working area, yard, plant and office.
• Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies, procedures and requirements.
• Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift up to 45 pounds.
• The employee is outdoors and exposed to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, wet, cold, etc)
• Must be able to work required overtime and flexible work schedule.

Hourly Range

The base hourly range for this role is between $23.00 - $30.00 per hour. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
