Job summary

The City of Decatur is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to support landfill operations. The role involves operating dozer, compactors, dump trucks, and tractors, and reporting repairs and safety concerns to the supervisor.

Hours are Monday–Friday with additional Saturday shifts, and work with inmates on the work-release program. A valid Alabama driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Qualifications

• Candidates should have completed specialized training in the field or equivalent experience.
• Experience to understand basic principles of landfill operation and equipment maintenance.
• Possess a valid State of Alabama driver’s license for the vehicle/equipment operated.
• Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations relevant to the job.
• Familiarity with city policies, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as dozer, compactors, dump trucks, and tractors to support landfill operations.
• Report repairs and safety concerns to supervisor promptly.
• Maintain work area through cleaning and routine upkeep of facilities.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
