Job description

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our City of Grand Prairie Landfill team!

The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment for construction and maintenance operations within the City. Responsibilities include:

1. Operating equipment such as backhoes, rollers, graders, front-end loaders, dozers, compactors, articulated dump trucks, and excavators to complete projects, assist operations, and ensure site compliance.
2. Performing preventative maintenance, including greasing, cleaning filters, checking fluids, inspecting undercarriage, and tracking inspections.
3. Assisting with landfill operations by screening waste, providing facility maintenance, and recycling activities like excavating metals and moving materials.
4. Maintaining stockpiles and pushing debris with bulldozers.
5. Moving litter fences and performing litter prevention duties.
6. Responding to after-hours emergencies such as fires.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: Knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalent.
• Experience: Over two years of related experience.
• Licenses: Valid Class A CDL Driver's License required within 6 months of employment.
• Certifications: EPA Certification for Refrigerants.
