Responsibilities

• Oversees the dumping area at the County landfill.

• Counts vehicles and bins accurately.
• Checks oil and antifreeze levels of assigned vehicles.
• Ensures cleanliness of drop-off and work areas.
• Packs waste into proper compactors.
• Fills out daily count sheets and prepares reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Assists St. Mary’s County citizens in proper waste removal and disposal procedures in accordance with established regulations; performs other duties as assigned.

The hiring salary for this position is $27,128 annually.

1. Oversees the dumping area at the County landfill;
2. Enforces rules and regulations of proper waste removal and disposal, including recycling;
3. Opens and closes the transfer station as directed;
4. Issues permits to St. Mary’s County residents;
5. Makes accurate vehicle and bin counts;
6. Checks oil and anti-freeze levels of assigned vehicles;
7. Ensures the cleanliness of the drop-off and work areas;
8. Packs waste into proper compactors;
9. Fills out daily count sheets and prepares other reports as directed;
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary’s County Government policies and procedures;
2. Knowledge of St. Mary’s County rules and regulations regarding waste removal and disposal;
3. Ability to differentiate between waste products and recyclable materials;
4. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and various equipment;
5. Knowledge of St. Mary’s County rules and regulations regarding waste removal and disposal;
6. Basic knowledge of machinery and vehicle maintenance;
7. Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff and members of the public.

2. Valid Maryland Drivers license;
3. Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Additional Requirements:

1. Must pass a pre-employment physical.
2. Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results;
3. Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work requires light physical effort in the handling of light materials and equipment in non-strenuous work positions up to 30 pounds and/or continual standing or walking of 60%+ of the time.

Work environment involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around various machines. Employees may be required to use protective gear such as boots and gloves; may require working in adverse weather conditions.

Full salary range for this position is $27,128 - $46,753. The full salary range does not reflect the anticipated hiring salary for this position. The anticipated hiring range is $27,128 annually.
