Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year experience as a cashier or in a role with related financial responsibilities.
• 1 year of administrative work and customer service experience; proficient computer skills.
• Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Open and close scale house; manage facility perimeter gate.
• Direct customers to unloading area and coordinate traffic.
• Monitor waste types to ensure regulatory compliance.

LANDFILL ATTENDANT

The Landfill Attendant is pivotal in maintaining efficient operations & upholding environmental standards at Salina’s Municipal Landfill. This frontline position involves managing traffic flow, coordinating the unloading of waste, & acting as a central contact for community waste management inquiries. On-the-Job Training:

The incoming Landfill Attendant will undergo thorough on-the-job training with guidance from our experienced staff at Salina’s Municipal Landfill. Trainees will be instructed on key operational duties, waste regulation compliance, handling financial transactions & managing customer inquiries accurately & efficiently. This supportive training environment fosters the development of confidence & proficiency in all responsibilities of the role.

Duties:

• Opens & closes scale house for operations; unlocks & locks facility perimeter gate.
• Directs customers to proper unloading area for waste disposal within the landfill.
• Coordinates with landfill equipment operators to efficiently manage traffic flow & prevent congestion at unloading points.
• Monitors waste types & materials to ensure only permissible waste is accepted in compliance with environmental regulations.
• Reads scale meters & records weights of solid waste coming to the landfill.
• Provides guidance & instructions to customers on acceptance criteria, recycling facilities, & fees.
• Enforces regulatory statutes set by KDHE which govern our facility & operational standards.
• Enforces city policies & resolutions set by City of Salina commission & staff.
• Resolves customer concerns or directs them to the appropriate personnel regarding non-technical issues or inquiries.
• Performs clerical duties for landfill operations.
• Processes charges & payments for waste disposal; provides receipts & tickets as required.
• Prepares monthly summaries; maintains landfill users reports.
• Cleans buildings & tends to the surrounding grounds; picks up litter as needed.

Education:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience:

• One (1) year of experience as a cashier or in a role with related financial responsibilities.
• One (1) year of administrative work & customer service experience; proficient computer skills.

Requirements:

• Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Hours:

• Rotating work schedule every 2 months, 3 days/week.
• Wed. 6:45 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. & Thurs.- Sat. 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Work Type:

• Light, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Equipment:

• Calculator, computer, pen, pencil, printer, radio, telephone & vehicles.

Starting Pay DOQ EOE:

• $17.39-18.26/hr.
• Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.

Paid Time Off:

• 24 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 24 hours earned during the year (48 hours in first year).
• 48 hours of sick leave during first year.
