Job summary

DC Department of Buildings (Office of the Surveyor) seeks a qualified land surveyor to review subdivision requests and prepare building plats, ensuring compliance with DC laws and standards. You will work with GIS data, verify land boundaries, and support the Surveyor in signing maps and plats.

Responsibilities include overseeing drafting work, coordinating with surveyors, and applying GIS/CAD techniques to accurately delineate parcels and lot lines in district records.

Qualifications

• Degree in land surveying or civil engineering with surveying emphasis, or equivalent experience.
• Registration as a land surveyor in a state or DC (NCEE Model Law) evidenced by exam results or current license.
• Experience with land records, plats, deeds, and GIS data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Respond to subdivision requests and determine legality per law.
• Review drafting jobs and surveying computations for completeness and accuracy.
• Draft building plats for permits and coordinate with the DC Surveyor.
• Use GIS and CAD tools to define land boundaries and interrelationships among lots.
