Job summary

Allworld Project Management is seeking a Land Surveying Crew Chief to lead field crews, oversee data collection and reporting across Memphis project sites. The role is full-time and onsite in Memphis, TN.

You will manage survey operations, mentor technicians, and ensure QA and safety standards while coordinating with clients and project managers. A minimum of 5 years as a crew chief and proficiency with total stations and GPS are required.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of land surveying: boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS surveys and related documents.
  • Ability to lead and instruct field crews in the execution of survey tasks.
  • Familiarity with field and office surveying practices and procedures.

AWPM is based in Downtown Memphis, TN, with offices in Houston, TX and Birmingham, AL. This position is full-time onsite in Memphis, TN at the various project locations.

Position Summary:

The Land Surveying Crew Chief (Senior Field Technician) briefs and debriefs field crews, process field notes and data, retrace or survey property boundaries, write reports, and draft maps. This position ensures accuracy of information collected and reported and makes critical judgement calls while in the field to provide quality field data collection within the scope of the project. The Senior Field Technician will serve as a Lead Field Technician for a small crew performing duties throughout the City and County. The Senior Field Technician makes critical judgement calls while in the field to provide quality field data collection within the scope of the project. This position is full-time onsite in Memphis, TN at various project sites.

Essential functions:
  • Provide weekly progress reports.
  • Assist with and identify process improvements.
  • Assist in performing a subset of tasks for project planning including pricing, planning, estimation, and coordination of tasks for a project.
  • Lead field efforts with Clients, Project Managers, Managers, Surveyors, and others solving issues and challenges that arise in the field.
  • Take measurements and collect information using high-tech equipment for a variety of various projects.
  • Analyze survey data and make calculations.
  • Draft plans and plot data using computer software.
  • Prepare finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports.
  • Sets out reference points on construction activities.
  • Participate in the formation and adherence to safety plans on a per project basis. Ensure safety is a priority.
  • Review field data, reports, and maps to ensure proper QA techniques are used.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Skills:
    • Strong working knowledgeable in all aspects of land surveying including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, route surveys, as-built surveys, construction staking, etc. with the ability to read and interpret various types of construction and property documents.
    • Ability to effectively instruct, direct, and lead others in the field.
    • Strong knowledge of field surveying practices and procedures. Familiarity with office surveying practices and procedures.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a crew chief.
  • Knowledge of field surveying practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency in using surveying instruments such as total stations and GPS.
  • Ability to directly lead others while engaged in field surveying work.
  • Possess the skills to mentor and coach other technicians.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Deliver high-quality work that adheres to established standards and aligns with project requirements.
  • Possess written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Maintain budget adherence by effectively managing resources.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and sufficient driving record.
Typical Physical Demands or Working Conditions:
  • Daily work environment includes working outdoors, rough terrain, and all-weather conditions.
  • Individuals will walk, sit, and stand while operating various equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Individuals may be required to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Individuals may be required to climb to various elevations and require visual acuity sufficient to read alpha/ numeric symbols and perform computation and design.
  • Individual must have a valid driver’s license and utilize their vehicle occasionally to visit job sites across the city when an AWPM vehicle is not available.
  • Ability to travel for work assignments; travel is estimated at approximately 5% and may include overnight stays.
