Job summary

UELS, LLC is seeking a motivated individual to assist a Surveyor in boundary surveys and staking, with a strong field orientation and reliability. You will travel to desolate sites, with most weekends at home and accommodations provided for travel days.

The role requires willingness for frequent out-of-town assignments, physical stamina, and ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Driver’s license with clean MVR is required, and drug/background checks may be needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
  • 6+ months experience as a Surveying Assistant preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have current and valid driver’s license with MVR.
  • Willingness to enroll in drug & alcohol screening and background program.

Responsibilities

  • Support a Surveyor while performing boundary surveys and staking.
  • Be prepared for out-of-town field work up to 5 days a week with accommodations and per diem.
  • Load and manage survey equipment, GPS base setup, and related supplies.
  • Travel to and from job sites; operate vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Maintain equipment, and coordinate with Crew Chiefs on daily scope of work.
  • End-of-day equipment checks and cleaning; weekly tasks as assigned.

Job description

Learn how to become a Land Surveyor!

This position supports a Surveyor while performing boundary surveys and staking. You will learn how to become a Land Surveyor. We are looking for a motivated individual who likes to be out in "the field" and is dedicated, loyal, hard-working, and gets satisfaction out of a full day's work.

One critical component of this role is that it requires quite a bit of out-of-town work, on many occasions, 5 days a week. We pay for accommodations and provide a per diem for food and other expenses. We will have you home most weekends, but there could be occasion for weekend work as well. You would be travelling to desolate and undeveloped areas of land, marking locations for future development or re-development. The travel to and from the site is also paid.

To give you an idea of what the day looks like:

Morning tasks:
  • Check with Crew Chief for daily scope of work - Load any and all needed equipment (GPS equipment, batteries, survey equipment, radios, hard hats, steel toe boots & other PPE) - Top off and load needed survey supplies (lath, paint, flagging spikes, red/white flags, posts & any other necessities) - Keep company vehicle clean.
Throughout the day:
  • Be prepared to drive to and from the job site.
  • Set up and tear down GPS base, carry all the supplies in a lath bag, backpack or belt.
  • Make sure to have enough water and anything else you may need throughout the day (Always plan on being gone for most of the day).
End of the work day:
  • Unload any equipment not needed.
  • Put all batteries on chargers. (Make sure they are charging)
  • Check with Crew Chief before going home.
Weekly Tasks:
  • Monday’s time is due for the previous week worked; enter time
  • Friday’s should be a day to clean equipment. (Unload and wipe down GPS, wash trucks, and clean office, bathrooms and shop areas.) Check with all Crew Chiefs to see if there is anything needing to be done.

Education: High School Diploma / GED Knowledge: 6+ months experience as a Surveying Assistant (Preferred) Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Additional: Ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift 75 lbs. Honest, Professional, Organized, Pays Attention to detail, Dependability, Thoroughness, Documentation Skills, Inventory Control, Safety Conscious, Strong Work Ethic, Self-driven with little or no supervision. Must have current and valid drivers license with MVR that meets Company requirements. Must be willing and able to enroll in a drug & alcohol screening and criminal background program.

Working Conditions: Mental and physical labors are a part of this job. Working conditions is mostly outdoor and the job is subject to extreme weather conditions. Must be able to walk for long periods of time and/or operate ATV’s through a variety of terrains.
