Job description

Land Survey Instrument Operator

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our Land Surveying department in Maryland as an Instrument Operator. Candidates will work as a key member of a survey crew, assisting in boundary, ALTA, topographic, right‑of‑way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys using the latest equipment and technology. The role may involve supervising the crew or working independently as needed.

Locations: Baltimore, MD; Lanham, MD; Frederick, MD (some travel to other Dewberry offices is expected).

Responsibilities

• Assist the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload.
• Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations.
• Daily upload and download of data from collectors.
• Daily care and charging of instrumentation.
• Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of one year of survey experience.
• High School Diploma (minimum).
• Good mathematical skills.
• Strong computer and data collector skills.
• Proficient use of Trimble survey equipment (GPS, robotics, total stations, levels, and data collectors).
• Proficient with Trimble Survey Controller data collection software.
• Knowledge of 3‑D scanners (a plus).
• Strong communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check.
• Pass a drug test.
• Dependable and physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites in all weather and terrain conditions.
• Ability to stoop, crawl, bend at knees and waist, squat, and lift 50 lb (body weight, equipment, tools, and boxes) and stand for long periods on varied surfaces.
• Availability to work overtime as required.
