Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Land Development Team Manager, P.E. to lead a growing land development practice and oversee a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, and mixed-use development projects. This leadership role is responsible for managing project delivery, mentoring engineering staff, maintaining client relationships, driving business growth, and ensuring operational excellence across the department.
The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with strong land development expertise, proven leadership capabilities, and a successful track record of managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff.
- Foster a collaborative, results-driven culture focused on technical excellence and professional growth.
- Manage staffing, workload allocation, and resource planning across multiple projects.
- Support employee development through coaching, training, and performance management.
Project Management
- Oversee all phases of land development projects, from planning and design through permitting and construction.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, scope, and deliverables.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives and client expectations.
- Maintain high standards of quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Client Relations & Business Development
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for clients.
- Identify opportunities for new projects and strategic partnerships.
- Participate in business development activities, networking events, and industry organizations.
- Support marketing efforts and contribute to the growth of the practice.
- Monitor project financial performance, profitability, and utilization metrics.
- Develop project budgets, fee estimates, and staffing plans.
- Assist with forecasting, revenue planning, and department performance tracking.
- Support accounts receivable and overall financial health of projects.
Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering plans, calculations, reports, and technical documents.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and permitting requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to project teams.
- Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, and utility providers.
Proposal Development
- Lead and support RFQ/RFP responses, proposals, and client presentations.
- Prepare scope of work documents, fee proposals, and project execution strategies.
- Collaborate with leadership to pursue new project opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Land Development Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing staff.
- Experience managing commercial and residential development projects.
- Strong client relationship management and business development experience.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven project management experience, including budget and schedule responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of local, municipal, and state permitting processes.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related engineering software.
- Experience with site development design, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility design.
- Track record of successfully growing client relationships and expanding business opportunities.
- Experience preparing and reviewing engineering proposals and contracts.
