Job summary

Civil Science, Inc. is seeking an experienced Land Development Team Lead / Project Manager to join our St. George, Utah office.

You will lead the design and delivery of land development projects while mentoring a team of designers and engineers, and serving as a key client contact to help win new work. Ideal candidates are licensed Professional Engineers who enjoy balancing hands-on design, project management, client relationships, and team leadership in a growing regional practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Utah or able to obtain).
  • 5+ years of land development or civil site engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams on development projects.
  • Strong client communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, design, and delivery of land development projects from concept to construction.
  • Mentor and manage designers and engineers; coordinate staffing and workload.
  • Serve as primary client contact; support business development and proposals.

Job description

Civil Science is seeking an experienced Land Development Team Lead / Project Manager to join our growing St. George, Utah office. In this role, you’ll lead the design and delivery of land development projects while managing and mentoring a team of designers and engineers. You’ll serve as a key client contact, help win new work, and play an important role in expanding our land development presence in Southern Utah.

This position is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer who enjoys balancing hands-on design, project management, client relationships, and team leadership.

What You’ll Do

Project Management & Design

  • Lead planning, design, and delivery of land development projects from concept through construction.

  • Prepare and oversee grading, drainage, utilities, roadway, and site development designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, scopes, and resources to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Perform quality control reviews and ensure compliance with local, state, and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain responsibility for technical accuracy and overall project performance.

Client & Business Development

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships.

  • Support and lead business development efforts, including proposals, scope development, and fee negotiations.

  • Identify opportunities for repeat work and expanded services.

  • Represent the firm in client meetings, industry events, and community engagements.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage designers and engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.

  • Assign work, provide technical guidance, and support professional development.

  • Coordinate staffing needs and workload planning to meet project demands.

  • Promote quality, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Utah or ability to obtain).

  • 5+ years of experience in land development or civil site engineering.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

  • Proven experience managing land development projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience leading or managing design teams.

  • Demonstrated success supporting or winning new work.

  • Knowledge of Southern Utah or regional permitting and development processes.

  • Strong business acumen and client relationship skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

  • Must be able to work on active construction sites, which may include uneven terrain, exposure to varying weather conditions, and moderate to high noise levels.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
