Job summary

Lancaster CTC Teachers is seeking a substitute teacher to carry out lesson plans and monitor classwork for the regularly appointed teacher. The substitute should maintain the established learning environment and adapt to daily assignments within PA school districts.

Required are PA clearances (Act 34/151), FBI background check, and a valid High School Diploma or GED, plus references and a resume. This is a part-time temporary role with day-to-day reassignment possibilities.

Qualifications

  • Valid High School Diploma or GED.
  • Act 34 PA criminal records check must be clean and <1 year old.
  • Act 151 PA child abuse clearance clean and <1 year old.
  • FBI criminal history record clean and <1 year old.
  • Proof of a TB test or chest X-ray <3 months.
  • Three professional references.
  • Resume.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the learning environment as if the regular teacher were present.
  • Follow the absent teacher's lesson plans.
  • Oversee student behavior in class and during lunch.
  • Provide instruction to students with special needs.
  • Ensure safety of students, equipment and facilities.

Position Summary


As a substitute teacher, you will be responsible for carrying out the lesson plans and monitoring the assigned classwork of the regularly appointed teacher for whom you are substituting. Your goal is to maintain the established learning environment as if the regular teacher were present.


Job Duties
Day to day job duties of a substitute teacher are determined by the classroom teacher or his/her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and/or school district. Substitute teachers of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The substitute teacher must comply with the duties outlined by the classroom teacher, principal or designee.

Essential Function
Substitute teaching is an essential part of the educational process. Each school year all district’s will look to build a workforce of substitute teachers to help aide their teachers and allow them to be replaced in times of need for the district. Each school district will rely on a qualified and enthusiastic group of sub’s that can step-up and continue the educational process in the absence of a teacher. It’s essential that the substitute teacher continues the primary teacher’s lesson plan so that the curriculum plan at hand continues to be carried out.



Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule, student or district need, and include but are not limited to:



  • Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in and reviews the plans and schedules for the day.

  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.

  • Assumes the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods and out-of-class settings.

  • Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following the absent teachers lesson plans.

  • Provides instruction to special needs children who are part of the classroom dynamic.

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Proficiency in maintaining efficient classroom management skills.

  • Conduct yourself in a polite and professional manner with other staff members and building administrators.

  • Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that is part of the classroom teacher’s curriculum or duties.
