Position Summary A substitute teacher you will be responsible for monitoring the assigned classwork of the teacher for whom you will be substituting. The substitute teacher reports to the principal or designee at the location to which they are assigned.

Job Duties Day to day job duties of a substitute teacher are determined by the classroom teacher or his/her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and/or school district. Substitute teachers of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The substitute teacher must comply with the duties outlined by the classroom teacher, principal or designee.

Essential Function Substitute teaching is an essential part of the educational process. Each school year all district’s will look to build a workforce of substitute teachers to help aide their teachers and allow them to be replaced in times of need for the district. Each school district will rely on a qualified and enthusiastic group of sub’s that can step-up and continue the educational process in the absence of a teacher. It’s essential that the substitute teacher continues the primary teacher’s lesson plan so that the curriculum plan at hand continues to be carried out.

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule, student or district need, and include but are not limited to:

• Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in and reviews the plans and schedules for the day.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.
• Assumes the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods and out-of-class settings.
• Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following the absent teachers lesson plans.
• Provides instruction to special needs children who are part of the classroom dynamic.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Proficiency in maintaining efficient classroom management skills.
• Conduct yourself in a polite and professional manner with other staff members and building administrators.
• Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that are part of the classroom teacher’s curriculum or duties.
