Job summary

Saint Joseph Health System is seeking a Lactation Consultant to provide breastfeeding support to patients, families, and staff in inpatient and outpatient settings. You will lead counseling, classes and support groups, coordinating with the medical team for care planning.

IBCLC certification (current or in progress) and a high school diploma or equivalent are required; one year of counseling experience is preferred. Benefits, tuition assistance and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college credits toward an associate degree or LPN preferred.
• IBCLC certification (current) or actively pursuing certification.
• Minimum one year direct counseling experience with breastfeeding families preferred.
• Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to engage with patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct breastfeeding support to lactating women post-delivery, with instructions for initiation and continuation.
• Support in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including counseling, classes and groups.
• Collaborate with RN and physicians on care plans and discharge instructions.
• Develop patient teaching standards for nursing staff related to breastfeeding care.
• Coordinate outpatient classes and support groups; refer as needed.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and a safe, clean environment.
