Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Lactation Consultant to support mothers and babies in the Postpartum Unit and NICU. The licensed professional will assist with successful breastfeeding and coordinate care with the care team, ensuring documentation and education are aligned with policy.

IBCLC certification or RN with licensure is required; rotating day/evening shifts and full-time benefits apply. The role includes collaboration with pediatrics, labor and delivery, and other units to optimize discharge

Qualifications

  • RN/IBCLC are required or eligible; Michigan RN license.
  • IBCLC certification required for IBCLC track.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required for RN track.
  • Must complete mandatory in-services and maintain IBCLC certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to breastfeeding mothers and infants across Postpartum, NICU, Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, and other units.
  • Assess lactation needs and document care, goals, and interventions.
  • Educate patients and families, including those with complex lactation challenges; RN track provides advanced clinical care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team on individualized feeding plans and discharge readiness.
  • Respond to outside breastfeeding-related inquiries and provide appropriate guidance.
  • Participate in breastfeeding policy adherence, updates, education materials, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
