Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Lactation Consultant to provide information and education regarding breastfeeding to patients and families and assist with establishing lactation onsite at our facility. This role focuses on lactation assessment, planning, and follow-up care in a hospital setting.

The position requires an Associate's Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred) with 2–3 years lactation experience, and may prefer CLC/IBCLC credentials.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree required or higher preferred.
• Lactation consulting experience 2–3 years preferred.
• CLC or IBCLC certifications preferred.
• Strong patient and written/oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide lactation assessment, planning, education and instruction to patients and families.
• Identify and aid in resolution of breastfeeding difficulties and develop care plans with staff.
• Offer post-delivery consultative care for breastfeeding, chest feeding, family bonding and planning.
• Evaluate patient responses to care and initiate changes as needed.
• Coordinate and manage care for patients, including those with complex needs.
• Educate maternity/NICU staff on breastfeeding support.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing information and education regarding breastfeeding to patients and families and assists patients with the establishment of lactation. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes

Essential Functions

• Providing lactation assessment, planning, education and instruction to patients and family
• Identifies and aids in resolution of breastfeeding difficulties, develops care plans with staff to meet individual patient's needs and provides follow-up consultations
• Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/Chest feeding, family bonding and planning
• Evaluating patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate
• Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs
• Provides information and education regarding breastfeeding to maternity and NICU staff

Education

Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred

Licenses and Credentials

• Certified Lactation Counselor/Consultant [CLC] - Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice preferred
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant [IBCLC] - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) preferred
