Summarized Purpose:

The Associate Scientist should possess a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures. Responsibilities include performing complex sample preparation and analysis to quantitatively measure biopharmaceutical compounds in various biological matrices, primarily using HPLC and CE instrumentation. Additional techniques include Hamilton Liquid Handlers and Protein Maker affinity purification. The role involves following analytical procedures under periodic supervision, reviewing and compiling results, comparing data against acceptance criteria, methodology, protocol, and product specifications, and entering data into databases and reports.

Essential Functions:

This position supports analytical testing for product quality analysis in Bioprocess Development under supervision, including:

  • Sample preparation requiring excellent pipetting skills.
  • Operating liquid handling systems (Protein Maker, Hamilton) for high-throughput sample preparation and purification.
  • Performing protein analytical assays such as Affinity Chromatography, SEC, CEX, CE-SDS, and icIEF to support rapid process development.
  • Documenting data clearly and concisely in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Coordinating sample submissions and managing data for incoming samples from BioProcess Development colleagues.
  • Managing laboratory operations such as shipping, ordering consumables, and instrument maintenance coordination.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with relevant academic or vocational qualifications.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education/training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of techniques such as Hamilton Robotics and biopharmaceutical testing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to interpret data and perform trend analysis.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with LIMS or Empower is a plus.
