Job description

This position will remain open until filled or until a sufficient number of applications are received. This position will NOT be eligible for benefits, paid leave time (vacation, sick, holiday) nor participation in the retirement system.
About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Laborer - Temp/Seasonal in the Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities department. This department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of facilities that host events, performances, and other community activities. The Laborer will assist in maintaining these facilities to ensure they are safe, clean, and ready for public use.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Perform manual labor in support of public works and facility maintenance projects.
  • Assist with event setup and teardown, including the transport of materials and equipment.
  • Operate a variety of hand tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols, including the placement of signage and cones around work sites.
  • Assist with minor repairs and cleaning tasks to maintain the condition of the facilities.
  • Provide support during adverse weather conditions or other emergencies as needed.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other staff to coordinate daily tasks and ensure project completion.
  • Assist in the upkeep of facility grounds, including trash collection and light landscaping.

Salary:$19.40 per hour

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of work experience that shows the ability to maintain steady employment
  • Valid driver’s license required

Other things to know:
Work Schedule: Schedule is determined based on event schedule, and can vary depending on the event schedule. This position is temporary for up to 1000 hours in a year. Minimum of 24 hours per week.
