Job Description Summary
The packaging handler position is responsible for toteroom (addback) functions. These duties include controlling toteroom activity, reworking cased product, and recase and stripout activities.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safe work practices and participate in safety programs.
- Operate toteroom addback equipment, adding bulk product back to lines.
- Work safely in cold conditions amid constant traffic and high noise levels.
- Ensure correct bulk is blended to lines and record activity on addback sheets.
- Rake product out of totes into the addback hopper as necessary, and assist with overflow or waste totes.
- Communicate needs to hyster drivers and team leaders.
- Use equipment such as product rakes, shovels, squeegees, white carts, waste carts, an electric pallet jack, broom and dustpan.
- Rework (strip out) cased product into totes for adding back to lines; correctly mark totes for manifesting.
- Fill out the rework log and handle re‑case activities, case damage, bag rework, and cleanup.
- Assist with break coverage for other packaging laborer positions.
- Clean the packaging area by sweeping, shoveling, and general sanitation.
- Handle case damage, bag rework, and product accumulated in packaging carts.
- Strip out bags in overflow and waste totes or on addback inspection shakers.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Lock‑out/Tag‑out, Forklift, and Sanitation certification may be required; training will be provided if not qualified.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to follow instructions and directions in English.
- Ability to perform basic math functions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements; stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
- Ability to work in environments with loud noise, varying temperatures from -20°F to 90°F, wet, slippery, and potentially with fumes or smoke.
- Manual dexterity, coordination, and good balance for ground and high‑place work.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting Lamb Weston standards.
Physical Environment & Demands
Work may involve exposure to temperature extremes, loud noise, heat, cold, wet or slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, and odors. Tasks include frequent lifting, bending, twisting, and operating equipment at ground level or high places.
