Gerken Paving, Inc. is hiring a Laborer (DOT) to support asphalt and construction operations through hands-on labor and CDL driving responsibilities. This full-time, seasonal role works on projects across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, with union membership required.

The position involves a variety of tasks on the jobsite, ensuring safety and efficiency, and contributing to successful project completion. CDL driving is required; Class A is preferred and a high school diploma is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor such as shoveling, raking, carrying and moving materials.
• Assist with jobsite prep by identifying obstacles and hazards.
• Transport and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment.
• Load and unload materials safely and efficiently.
• Support operators, flaggers and other crew members on the jobsite.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Dispose of waste and debris per safety/environmental guidelines.
• Report safety concerns promptly.
• Operate CDL-required vehicles as needed to support operations.

About the Role

We're hiring a Laborer (DOT) to support asphalt and construction operations through a combination of hands-on labor and CDL driving responsibilities. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy variety in their workday and take pride in supporting safe, efficient project completion.

This is a full-time, seasonal position working on projects throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Union membership is required for this role.

What You'll Do

• Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling, raking, carrying, and moving materials
• Assist with jobsite preparation by identifying and removing obstacles and hazards
• Transport and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment
• Assist with loading and unloading materials safely and efficiently
• Support operators, flaggers, and other crew members on the jobsite
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
• Dispose of waste and debris according to safety and environmental guidelines
• Report safety concerns, incidents, or issues promptly
• Operate CDL-required vehicles as needed to support operations

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with assistance
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the day
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as project schedules require

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Class B CDL with no manual transmission restriction required
• Class A CDL preferred
• Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment
• Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Adaptability and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
