Gerken Paving is currently seeking applicants for a full time, seasonal position as a General Laborer who possesses a Commercial Drivers License with the Hazardous Materials endorsement.

Job Duties

• Utilizing shovel, rake, lute measuring wheel, and other small hand tools
• Digging, spreading, and leveling construction materials as directed
• Lifting, carrying, and cleaning tools and equipment
• Performing a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on heavy highway, roadway, excavation, and infrastructure projects
• Operating screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications, making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade, and finishes cross section of asphalt material via screed controls
• Guides dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver
• Operates other equipment on the project
• Follows all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.

Skills and Abilities

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in an asphalt paving operation (road construction in high traffic areas) helpful
• Valid CDL with hazardous materials endorsement required
• Safe and acceptable driving record
• Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and nights when necessary
• Ability to work in a team as well as individually
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions such as cold, rain, heat, and humidity
• Union membership required
