Gerken Paving, Inc. is hiring a Laborer (DOT) to support asphalt and construction operations through hands‑on labor with CDL driving responsibilities. This is a full‑time, seasonal position across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, and union membership is required.

The role emphasizes safe, efficient project completion and pride in contributing to community improvements while working outdoors with a collaborative crew.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Class B CDL required; Class A preferred.
• Basic knowledge of construction tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling, raking, carrying, and moving materials.
• Assist with jobsite preparation by identifying and removing obstacles and hazards.
• Transport and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist with loading and unloading materials safely and efficiently.
• Support operators, flaggers, and other crew members on the jobsite.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Dispose of waste and debris according to safety and environmental guidelines.
• Report safety concerns, incidents, or issues promptly.
• Operate CDL-required vehicles as needed to support operations.

About the Role

We're hiring a Laborer (DOT) to support asphalt and construction operations through a combination of hands‑on labor and CDL driving responsibilities. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy variety in their workday and take pride in supporting safe, efficient project completion.

This is a full‑time, seasonal position working on projects throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Union membership is required for this role.

What You'll Do

• Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling, raking, carrying, and moving materials
• Assist with jobsite preparation by identifying and removing obstacles and hazards

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with assistance
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the dayAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as project schedules require

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Class B CDL with no manual transmission restriction required
• Class A CDL preferred
• Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment
• Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Adaptability and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
